Afternon Schedule: Hands on Learning

Geography: 12:45 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Geography class is one of the most important classes of the day. This is the time when kids learn about their surroundings. Because the kids in this program learn better doing hands on activities, it is important that they do hands on activities to learn about the world. Each week students will learn about a different part of the world. The teacher will create a list of different places for students to learn about. They will use globes for visuals and will be able to go outside for examples that the teacher may want to demonstrate. This is a great tactic to teaching Geography because it allows kids to get outside in the enviornment and use visuals such as globes and maps to learn about the world.

World Language: 2:05 P.M. - 3:15 P.M.

There will be many different languages offers in this program such as Spanish, Japanese, French. Chinese and Italian, all varying in different levels of difficulty. Having a great amount of language choice will allow students to pick languages they actually might want to learn, thus they will work hard in class to learn their language of choice. As a motivator to get kids to learn, there will be an end of the year field trip to the country that kids are learning about. This gives students a goal o work by which will motivate them to complete the school year academically strong.

Rough Draft of Morning Schedule: Hands on learning

Schedule

8:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M.

Ø      Child Development - Students (Grade 9) will learn how to take care of kids not only through tests and lessons, but through hands on experiences as well. From 8:30 A.M. – 9:15 A.M., kids will take notes on how to take care of kids (clean, feed and provide safety). These notes will be given through a power point and have visuals for the students. From 9:15 A.M. – 10:00 A.M., kids will physically be able to put the skills they learned from notes into real life through actual model babies. This lesson plan works very well with these students learning abilities because they will be able to apply the skills they learn in the classroom to real life, allowing them to have more than one opportunity to understand certain subjects that they may struggle with.

10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

Ø      English – One of the biggest problems students have in English class is writing a successful essay with a well thought out thesis statement. So from 10:00 A.M. – 10:45 A.M., students will be given lessons on how to construct successfully create thesis statements which will lead to successful essays. Notes will be taken and the teacher will construct many examples of thesis statements so students can learn through the teacher instead of struggling on their own. From 10:45 A.M. – 11:30 A.M., students will be given the opportunity to work with one another as well as the teacher on constructing thesis statements and clear up any questions they might have about what they are learning. This is important because it allows students to get the opinions of other students and it allows them to feel like they have connections with people in the class instead of feeling like they are the only ones struggling. From 11:30 A.M. -12:00 P.M., students will have free response time. This is the time when students can write personal notes to the teacher about what they are struggling with or what they feel is helping them learn. This allows the teacher to base lesson plans off of what is working with the students. Students will feel like their opinions are being heard which in return will allow them to work hard and efficiently.

Ø      Lunch 12:00 P.M. - 12:45 P.M.
